Tourism is on track for full recovery as new data shows a strong start to 2023 

International tourism is well on its way to returning to pre-pandemic levels, with twice as many people travelling during the first quarter of 2023 than in the same period of 2022. International tourism receipts reached the USD1 trillion mark in 2022, growing 50% in real terms compared to 2021, driven by the important rebound in international travel.

Tourism in Italy sets to smash record this year 

Tourism in Italy this year is set to smash record levels set before the coronavirus pandemic, new data showed, putting the sector’s recovery ahead of pace in Europe as a whole.     The emirate welcomed close to five million visitors in the first quarter of 2023 

    Dubai welcomed 4.67 million international overnight visitors in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 3.97 million tourists during the same period in 2022. This marks a 17 per cent year-on-year growth and the city’s best Q1 performance since the pandemic, placing it firmly on track to becoming the most visited international destination, according to data published by the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

    Amsa to bring 18 Accor hotels into Saudi Arabia by 2032 

    Accor has signed a deal with Amsa Hospitality in Saudi Arabia to develop and franchise 18 hotels over the next ten years. Charleston, South Carolina, is the most expensive US destination 

The historic port city of Charleston in South Carolina is the most expensive destination in America for accommodation this spring; a new survey has shown. In Charleston, guests will have to pay an average of $358 per night for the cheapest double room. Meanwhile, two Hawaiian resort towns, Lahaina and Wailea, emerged as the second and third priciest destinations, with average rates of $338 and $312, respectively.

Jamaica registers 94% rise in tourist arrivals in Q1 2023 

Tourists coming to Jamaica’s sun-drenched beaches increased by over 100% in the first three months of the year, resulting in huge lines and hours-long delays for arriving passengers at the island’s major airport. Later that day, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett told Parliament that there were 1.18 million arrivals from January to March, which is 94% higher than the same time in 2022 and a record high for Jamaica’s tourist hot season.

Saudi Arabia will section off part of its ancient Hegra site in AlUla to become a luxury hotel. TripAdvisor’s First Seasonal Travel Index of 2023 

TripAdvisor released its first Seasonal Travel Index of 2023, providing an outlook for travel patterns and demand over the next three months. Many travelers plan to travel in the upcoming season (March 1 through May 31) according to consumer sentiment research commissioned by TripAdvisor in five key global markets. For those intending to change travel plans due to rising prices this upcoming season, 31 percent will travel less or take shorter trips while 27 percent will vacation closer to home.

The best of the best was Saudi Arabia at ITB Berlin 2023

Accor’s announcement of the opening and experiences in North and Central America 

Accor announced openings, renovations, culinary debuts, and experiences at properties across North and Central America. The year 2023 marks the opening of both Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Panama and Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences, alongside renovations at Fairmont properties. Opening in the summer of 2023, the project will be the brand’s first mixed-use property in North America and include a mix of hotel services such as the Raffles Butler and public spaces including a two-story sky lobby.
